LITTLE PHILOSOPHERSTM thanks the 354 children from 46 nations who
participated this year. Our jurors from 100 nations were impressed and challenged
Students had to respond to the following poem:
THE MAGIC MACHINE
Little Tina and Tonto were walking about, it was March and a beautiful day But the wind was so sad as it whispered its song The world was ending in May
These little kids knew why the world had to end Even small as they were they still knew Because people around them were never content... They fought, they were lonely and blue
So they wondered if somehow they might save the world And prevent this terrible thing So they went to the woods and there all alone They made the magic machine
Now they took their machine 'round the world in the spring To the leaders of men and of state The world was so happy with laughter and tears, for it ended all anger and hate
All over the world they shared their new toy People asked them just why they had made Such a beautiful gift for the people of earth...this was the answer they gave
We wanted to make a machine that could show how easy it is to be kind If it stopped the wars, if it made people smile We were certain that no one would mind
It laughs and is happy for reasons so small, it plays in the meadows of green It runs in the wind and its love will not end An unbreakable magic machine
It may possible be that you do not believe That this magic machine could come true But if you are wise then you'll soon realize...
